#389 closed defect (Unsupported Version)
Neither ACPI nor APM shutdown work
Reported by: | Peter Weilbacher | Owned by: | eco |

Priority: | major | Milestone: | Release version 3.19 |
Component: | ACPI PSD | Version: | 3.14 |

Description
Not really sure where I should submit this problem, but I think it is more likely that ACPI has a problem than eWorkPlace.
I cannot get my computer to power down after shutdown. I tried all four possibilites that eWP gives me when "Power-off computer" is on:
- ACPI (ACPI level: 3.14), with and without Delay checked
- APM (APM level: 1.2), with and without Delay checked
When using the ACPI option, the shutdown "hangs" with the dialog "releasing filesystems" still visible. When using the APM option, the screen is black. I will attach the three eshutdown.log files that I have. The system config is the same as in ticket 388.
Please let me know how I can provide more information and if I should also open a bug on eWP/XWP.

I should add that the "Power Off" option of the Power object does not really work, either. It does not switch off the power, but instead only fully hangs the system, so that the display isn't updated any more and even the mouse pointer is frozen. I waited quite a while, but the power was never switched off afterwards.

Replying to pmw:
When using the ACPI option, the shutdown "hangs" with the dialog "releasing filesystems" still visible.
Is animation of shutdown switched on? If yes, switch it off, it makes trouble on some systems.

No, that does not help. I also updated to ACPIPRE2_2009-03-17.ZIP without any real change. (Now sometimes the "releasing filesystems" dialog vanishes but power off still never happens.)

I made an experiment and removed all arguments from the ACPI.PSD line in Config.sys. This caused SMP to disappear so that the system only sees a single core, but now shutdown works with ACPIPRE2.ZIP. Of course that is a workaround that I don't want to use, so I would be interested in testing any new versions, if developers told me so.

This ticket is really old and not really relevant to the current software. If you still have problems with the current version, please open a new ticket.
