#161 closed defect (fixed)

apparent problem in new ACPI (v 3.5) package install

Reported by: Chuck McKinnis Owned by: pasha
Priority: major Milestone: Release version 3.08
Component: ACPI PSD Version: 3.05
Keywords: Cc:

Description

I used the "fast update" WPI and all seemed to update OK, however when I tried to reboot, I could not get to the WPS - the system froze at the point that the WPS would normally startup. I don't know if this problem was caused by the later ACPI code or the fact the WPI installer had let a read-only byte set on config.sys (and possibly other files ?). In any case, trying to simply restore an archived desktop did not work until I found the r/o attribute on config.sys and removed it.

System in an AMD X-2 on an ASUS M2V-TVM motherboard. OS version is eCS 2.0 RC3

Please help us test if eWorkPlace has stable eShutdown, if WarpIn is working right. ACPI doesn't change the attributes of config.sys

Please try install ACPI 3.05 again. Your motherboard is fully supported (SMP, suspend/resume)

We are going popup MsgBox in WarpIn installation: "Press Ctrl-Alt-Del to reboot PC. Don't use shutdown"

Reopen ticket if ACPI causes troubles again

I have now manually installed the updated acpidaemon.exe, acpi32.psd, apm.add, resource.sys and acpi32.dll in their appropriate directories with the v 3.05 versions (afetr unlocking and renaming the previous files), after a shutdown and restart of the system, it hangs at WPS load.

Rebooting to another partition (eCS 2.0RC2) and deleteing the v 3.05 files and renaming the original eCS 2.0RC3 ones back, allows me to reboot my RC3 partition as before.

That would suggest to me that the new files have an issue with this hardware ?

As I am back running 3.04 - I don't have the acpi.log from v 3.05 (as it wont boot !).

I have attached acpidaemon.log from the working v 3.04 (I can't find an ACPI.LOG) - not sure if this helps at all.

Sorry for taking a while to get back to you.

Cheers/2

Ed, Try the debug version of 3.05 deom the debug subdirectory. I had the same hang before the WPS loaded and the debug version works where the non-debug one does not.

Please try ACPI 3.7

I can confirm that with version 3.7, the WPS and boot hang no longer occur. I have one issue that when doing a shutdown, the system actually reboots rather than closing down - however that is documented under another ticket.
