Description

If I switch my Lenovo T400 to Integrated video mode (which uses the Intel chipset) and set screen resolution ot 1440x900 (i.e. the native panel res) with the 32bpp color depth, the picture on the display gets broken (will attach a photo of that in some minutes). At lower color depths it works fine.

Looks like the driver thinks it's in 1440x900 mode but the panel is actually in something like 1024x768 mode.

According to the log you provided, when you are using the Intel video hardware, the hardware/BIOS is providing 100% of the resolution and color depth settings, Panorama is not. Since Panorama is not controlling the resolution and color depth settings in this case, there is nothing Panorama can do about it. This looks like a hardware/BIOS limitation/defect, not a Panorama problem.

It could be that there is not enough video RAM to support 32 bit color depth even though the BIOS reports that there is.

I haven't quite got your comment. What do you mean saying "Panorama is not [providing 100% of the resolution and color depth settings]"?

I've just checked it on Windows, and Windows can successfully set 1440x900x32bpp on this very same hardware.

Your question has prompted me to write a description of what Panorama is. You can read it on the front page of the Wiki.

The short summary is that Panorama is not really a video driver like other device drivers. It is simply an interface to your system's video BIOS. That means that if your BIOS supports it, it will work. If your BIOS doesn't support it, it won't work. It is as simple as that. In some cases Panorama will attempt to patch the BIOS in your system to try to make it work with different resolutions. However, with your system, no patching was needed so no patching was done. That means that the BIOS is doing everyting 100% as is and if 32 bit color doesn't work, that is a limitation or defect in the BIOS, not in Panorama. Unfortunately, that means in this case there is no defect in Panorama and nothing that can be fixed.
