I'm sending this message to Ben Rietbroek who is working on some OS2AHCI points.

One thing that keeps coming up in some cases is that on systems with an Intel disc controller you need the /R option specified. In some cases the system is able to boot with from the CD but it does not recognize the hard disc. Using the /R option fixes.

In the documentation this is written: /r Reset ports during initialization (default = off

unless the [Intel] AHCI controller was found to

be

initialized by the BIOS in SATA mode)

My question what would the result be to do this by default (to always initialize) the controller. Or will this just "fix" some systems (no user action needed) and make other systems hang ?

Well, I have just discovered, on my machine at least, that DVD burn utility will not burn a DVD successfully if the SATA interface to which the "burner" is connected is configured in AHCI mode.
