Description

From: Cristiano Guadagnino

Hi ACPI developers! I have a desktop system running on an ASRock AM2NF6G-VSTA motherboard (nVidia chipset, AMD dual core CPU). ACPI is working quite well, but my CPU cores are always working at their fullest, generating a lot of heat and consuming a lot of energy. When will you start supporting PowerNow! and/or Cool'n'Quiet? Please, there are a lot of AMD-based systems out there, eComStation really needs to fully support those systems if it wants to be credible. The code is available in Linux distros. Please, give us support.

PowerNow! Cool'n'Quiet is't part of ACPI

I understand it is not part of ACPI. Still, we AMD users are left out in the cold with respect to INTEL users when it comes to the ability to fully exploit our CPUs. In the ACPI package there are a couple utilities dealing with throttling of INTEL CPUs... would it be possible to add something for AMD too, given the fact that code is available? You have both the experience and the talent to do it with relatively little effort. I'm sure Serenity would be interested: a lot of eCS buyers use AMD CPUs.

Any news on the subject? This was marked for milestone 3.12, we're at 3.14 now.

This ticket is extremely old and for an unsupported version. Please try the current version.

Running acpistat will tell you if throttling and performance control (Cool'n'Quiet) is supported on your system.
