#250 closed defect (wontfix)

Battery status not shown when A/C is disconnected

Reported by: Chuck McKinnis Owned by: pasha
Priority: major Milestone: Release version 3.10
Component: ACPI PSD Version: 3.09
Keywords: Cc:

Description

HP OMNIBOOK 900

ACPI seems ok, but it doesn't show correct batt status.

When power is unplugged, notebook works very slow, and ACPIdaemon gets locked (unkillable).

Battery status is always incomplete - both before and after A/C is disconnected.

Problem is there even if APM and ACPIDAEMON is not loaded.

e-co:

The notebook was manufactured in ~ 2000. Not all hardware was ready for ACPI.

ACPI for eComStation is recommended for notebooks manufactured in 2006 and later.

Thank you for report and testing, I recommend you use IBM APM.

OK, new loader fixes the problem with RAM detected, you have 170 Mb instead of 64 Mb. Seems that the notebook is old and doesn't work with ACPI 2008. Inform us, does it work with IBM APM?

2 Steven:

there are three arguments:

  • we discussed the notebook with the user on irc
  • we don't want spend time to old hardware, we should support new hardware only
  • we don't pay to the testers and can't make them post feedback to every ticket
  • we are using the list of active tickets as "today plan", the only motivation is to minimize the quantity of active tickets

Hi Eugene,

  • we discussed the notebook with the user on irc

We need to communicate better. This was not clearly stated in your original comment. Based on this, I agree with the wontfix disposition.

  • we don't want spend time to old hardware, we should support new hardware only

You and Pasha do not need to spend any time on tickets marked Feedback Pending until the tester responds.

  • we don't pay to the testers and can't make them post feedback to every ticket

That's expected. You and Pasha don't need to do anything about the ticket until the user responds.

  • we are using the list of active tickets as "today plan", the only motivation is to minimize the quantity of active tickets

No this is not how it is supposed to work. "Today's plan" is only the tickets targeted for the "Release version 3.10" milestone. It will discuss this in more detail on the mailing List.

Note: See TracTickets for help on using tickets.
