Description

Hello,

My Compaq Presario CQ57-487SA hangs shortly after booting with ACPI version 3.20.04. Using the /VW switch also results in the system hanging but it seems to work ok with the /PIC switch. The system worked ok with the ACPI package suppled with the eCS 2.1 CD using the /SMP /APIC switches.

Cheers,

Dan

"Hyperthreading is not supported. The system will not operate properly with hyperthreading enabled in the BIOS."

You must turn off hyperthreading in the BIOS.

The BIOS dosen't have that option but enabling VT-x seems to have solved the problem.

Some BIOS has the hyperthreading option hidden in a section that you would not think of, like cache options or something like that.

Thanks for your reply. Having another look there doesn't appear to be any hidden menus/settings.

This youtube clip someone else has posited shows the BIOS features (or lack thereof): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zkeQkTyZtQg

Please try this test. Do not use any other switches other than the ones specified below.

  1. Change the PSD= line in your CONFIG.SYS to: PSD=ACPI.PSD /MAXCPU=1

Reboot.

  1. If it boots that way, change the PSD= line in your CONFIG.SYS to: PSD=ACPI.PSD /MAXCPU=2

Reboot.

Please let me know if your system boots ok either way.

Thanks, The /MAXCPU=1 switch works but the /MAXCPU=2 switch causes the system to hang after 2-3 minutes.

Edit: After switching on again, the system now seems hang at the boot logo.

Please send me an e-mail (david at 88watts dot net) so I can send you a test PSD privately. Put "ACPI Ticket 551" in the subject so I will know what it is.

Thank you for sending me the test PSD. Unfortunately in both tests the system still hangs.
