Toshiba Tecra A9 Throttling/Suspend don't work
Reported by: | Jirka Schöll | Owned by: | eco |
---|---|---|---|
Priority: | major | Milestone: | Feedback pending |
Component: | ACPI PSD | Version: | 3.11 |
Keywords: | Suspend | Cc: |
Description
I use the latest ACPI from Betazone (ACPI22102008.ZIP). Notebook runs with PSD=ACPI.PSD /SMP /PIC /EIS /CD /R /FS In APIC mode the boot process hangs at various drivers. In PIC mode Video, Sound, WLAN, USB work well, but I can't throttle the CPU's. Suspend is not working. Nothing happens.

No problems!
? Can you boot ACPI 3.11 standard with: /SMP /APIC /CD
System hangs directly after the boot logo. ALT+F2 does not show any driver.
/SMP /PIC /CD traps directly after the boot logo.
/SMP /PIC /CD /SAP:0x20 boots ok. But no throttling/suspend.
With all testcase ACPI drivers after standard 3.11 I can boot without /SAP:0x20

What say SetGetThrtl.exe ?
Copied it to ecs\bin:
C:\ecs\bin>SetGetThrtl.exe Searching processors Processor [CPU0]
ProcId: 0x0 P_BLK: 0xd810 P_BLK len: 0x6
Possible for throttle setting
Processor [CPU1]
ProcId: 0x1 P_BLK: 0xd810 P_BLK len: 0x6
Possible for throttle setting
CPU0 throttling is disabled CPU1 throttling is disabled
C:\ecs\bin>SetGetThrtl.exe 0 70 Trottling set error rc=65283

OK, you have throttling, you need Central Remote Control for automatic Throttling change

NO.. it's very bad that you boot with /SAP:0x20
please start testing from the beginning.
You should try /SMP /APIC or /SMP /APIC /CD

Central Remote Control doesn't work. Same error in log files.

With /APIC boot hangs at kbdbase.sys.
After some testing I can boot with /SMP /PIC /EIS /R /FS. The system runs stable and all is working, except throttling an suspend.

I attached two log files from CRC Popa.

you have two problems: throttling and SMP APIC.
Let's discuss your notebook and SMP APIC here: http://svn.netlabs.org/acpi/ticket/372#comment:1
Throttling: check BIOS Setup, did you enabled ACPI, Throttling, etc? Show photo of BIOS setup page.

btw, Jirka informed me some hours ago: I tested all new ACPI versions, the official an the test builds. / APIC doesn't work and setgetthrtl means CPU0 throttling is disabled/CPU1 throttling is disabled

Now you have in log:
* Throttl Width 0 Offset 1
Width 0 mean - that throttling is absent in your computer. Try change "Dynamic CPU Frequency Mode" and look in log for change this value.

Possible settings are:
Dynamically switchable Always low Always high
I tested all of these BIOS settings, no luck.

Pasha says that the logs indicate you system does not support throttling. Are you sure that you read the log correctly when you switched to Dynamic CPU Frequency mode? If so, you are trying to ask the system to do something is does not support.
If you are not sure about the log output, you need to post it here so Pasha can review it.

Do you really believe this? A new Notebook with Core 2 Duo which does not support throttling?
I think the ACPI driver has a Problem, not the notebook. As you can see in the logs there is another strange problem. The acpica.log says:
The system does not support a C2 state. 7FFF The system does not support a C3 state 7FFF
and later in the same log:
_CST has 4 Cstates
C1State control: 0x0 Latency: 1 uSec Power consuption: 1000 mWatt C2State control: 0xD814 Latency: 1 uSec Power consuption: 500 mWatt C3State control: 0xD815 Latency: 17 uSec Power consuption: 250 mWatt C3State control: 0xD816 Latency: 57 uSec Power consuption: 100 mWatt
End init CPU0 rc:0
???????????????????????????????????
Are you sure that you read the log correctly when you switched to Dynamic CPU Frequency mode? If so, you are trying to ask the system to do something is does not support.
I tested all 3 BIOS-Modes (High, Low and dynamic), I tested the SMP and the W4 kernel! But always I have the * Throttl Width 0 Offset 1 in the log!
If you are not sure about the log output, you need to post it here so Pasha can review it.
I'm very sure about the log output!

Throttling don't work.
System enters suspend after a long time, wakes up, shows some init messages (success) and shows a funny colored screen.

You don't need in /TMR. Why you don't use /APIC? For suspend + SNAP your chance for success is near 0. Need use panorama.
Ok, will remove /TMR.
Can't using /ACPI because of Ticket #372[[BR]]
Mainly I use Panorama. I only tested some things with snap!
