#67 closed defect

No sound On Crystal AC'97 with Uniaud RC3, previous version OK — at Version 14

Reported by: Steve Wendt Owned by: Yoda
Priority: normal Milestone: Stabilization
Component: UNIAUD32 Version: 1.1.4
Severity: normal Keywords:
Cc: Yoda

Description (last modified by Brendan Oakley)

Uniaud RC3 produces no sound on my ACP2 system with a Crystal-based sound card. System sounds, PM123 and WVGui are all silent. The previous version of Uniaud, which works well, identifies itself as RC2 at boot time. I can provide logs for the previous version if required. Logs for RC3 are attached.

Uniaud RC3 produces no sound on my ACP2 system with a Crystal-based sound.
WVGui are all silent.

Are you trying WvGui using UNIAUD API ?

The previous version of Uniaud, which works well, identifies itself as RC2
at boot time. I can provide logs for the previous version if required.

Please try using UNIAUD16 RC2 with UNIAUD32 RC3

If this doesn't work, try other combinations.

Send UniInfo from the combination, that works.

Are you trying WvGui? using UNIAUD API ?

Yes, and the DART API is also silent.

Please try using UNIAUD16 RC2 with UNIAUD32 RC3

uniaud16 rc2 + uniaud32 rc3 = no sound uniaud16 rc3 + uniaud32 rc2 = sound - logs attached.

Quite a surprice

Please try this version: ftp://ftp.ecomstation.dk/uniaud32_114RC3W4.zip

Please send UniInfo for that, and tell us which OS and version you use
and kernel rev

RC3W4 version does not produce sound, logs attached. [The new Resync0.9.5 version also fails to produce sound.]

OS is Warp Server for eBusiness (ACP2) with fixpak 5 but with the pre-fixpak version of pmmerge.dll. Kernel is 14.103a_uni.

No change with Uniaud114 RC4. As with RC3, RC4 uniaud16.sys + RC2 uniaud32.sys produces sound but any other combination which has an RC4 component doesn't. I can provide logs if you want them.

Give us logs from this version:

ftp://ftp.ecomstation.dk/ac97-1.zip[[BR]]

It is a debug version, which can give us some more info. (no fixes in it)

I am having a similar problem with RC4. I have no sounds at all. This is on eCS 1.2R running with SMP on dual PIIIs and with eCS 1.2R on a T42. Sound was working fine on both systems. I have gone back to RC3 and RC2 on the SMP machine with no success. I have the logs available for all 3 versions.

I really suspect that the culprit is something besides Uniaud, but I have no idea where to look.

Chuck, I just had problems with sound on my T42 where I had no sound after testing ACPI 3.05. I went back to APM and still no sound, I then changed back to an experimental uniaud I had built and was using before testing the latest uniaud release candidate and no sound despite no errors on boot. I played with the mixer to make sure the sound was not just turned off and even Warpvision with uniaud didn't make sound. Finally I fixed my windows boot and booted into windows where I did have sound and now have sound in eCS again. If you have a windows partition on one of the machines then windows may initialize something that we are not currently initializing.

Hi Chuck...

Is this anyway related to same hardware as reported here ? It is fine to report about same problms on equal hardware; but if yours are even slightly different, please open a new Ticket.

I really suspect that the culprit is something besides Uniaud, but I have no idea where to look.

With Paul Smedley's alsa resync 1.0.3 I get sound on my Crystal-based card (with the other uniaud components from RC4). I'm waiting for the release of the "official" 1.0.2 to see if that works, too.

RC5 gives me sound with my Crystal-based card. After a suspend/resume there is no longer sound (but that's been a problem for a long time). That's not an issue for me, as I rarely use suspend/resume, but I'm aware that it is for some.

Regards, and thanks for all the work
