Updating the 0.9.0beta code involves a lot of changes and requires quite a bit of fixing up.

The oldest Alsa code is now updated to 0.9.0beta12, and it builds. It might be good to do some testing with the updated binary. Meanwhile I'll continue merging toward 0.9.1.

I have completed the merge from 0.9.0beta6 to 0.9.0beta12 and resolved all conflicts. As I expected, it will no longer compile, so I have begun the process of fixing the compile errors. Nothing too difficult yet.
This merge was pretty hard, but I have high hopes that the subsequent merges will go more smoothly.
