#189 closed defect (too-old)

Only faint sound through DART

Reported by: jep Owned by: martini
Priority: normal Milestone:
Component: UNIAUD32 Version: 1.9.23
Severity: normal Keywords: Faint sound
Cc:

Description

HD Audio: Realtek ALC888 / ALC888T (But the behaviour is also present on another machine with a AOpen AW320 card with a Cirrus Logic CS4614 chip)

I've installed and tried LBMix, UniAudio? Mixer PM and the built in Volume Control on my computers with eCS 2.0 GA installations done quite recently. All work quite well, except that the volume has to be set to MAX as the output is way to low. System sounds, the built in Media Player Folders with the addition of MP3 support can be heard, but higher volume ranges would be appreciated.

MPlayer, WarpVision? and other applications can't emit sound other than through DART but then also only faint. MPlayer display ∠[││││││││......] with DART. MPlayer display ∠[...............] if UNIAUD output has been selected ( while WarpVision? crash ).

The behavior was also present when my previous ticket was fixed (#127).

probably you have to play with unimix cmdline. LBMix is known to not work too good. see http://svn.netlabs.org/uniaud/ticket/195

It doesn't matter if I use one mixer or the other, the interesting part though, is that there are only 32 "steps" present on the scale to set sound, while it allow about 64 steps on my other sound cards. Don't know where the remaining 50% may be found as they're not available to either mixer?

Changes (unrelated to audio): The computer run on all 4 cores now and the LAN use the Realtek driver from Mensys.

Problem: The text in ticket 195 suggest that it enable PM version UNIAud to be able to change volume... (something I already can on this computer) from a whisper to totally mute. Changes according to ticket 195 doesn't give me the volume needed!

I want to be able to change the volume to something louder than a whisper.

Thank you for your help, now I can hear some of the audio output at maximum volume.

Changing the audio output to the front of the computer case made the largest difference... that there is a difference at all... So how do I adjust the settings for the output in the back of the case?!

I tried the settings suggested in ticket 195 a few years ago, but they didn't help then. I've also tried the 2 settings you posted here now, but can't hear any audible difference.

you need to look at your unimix -list and search the control's which could make a difference. you can't just use the ones suggested in #195, as soundcard's are different.

Hi Jep

I'm trying to do some tickets housekeeping here.

Do you still experience this issue with Uniaud version 2.2.6 / 2020-05-06 (ftp://ftp.netlabs.org/pub/uniaud/Uniaud-20200506.exe).

Can we close this ticket?

Regards
