OpenOffice 3: Saving a file to a Samba share takes ages from eCS system

Reported by: Herwig Bauernfeind Owned by:
Priority: major Milestone: Netdrive plugin 2.1 alpha
Component: Samba Client Plugin Version: 3.0.34

Description

Saving a files from OpenOffice 3 to a Samba share takes ages.

Scenario:

  1. Setup Samba Server for eCS.
  2. Setup a eCS Client using EVFS/Netdrive.
  3. Share a directory with 150 (or so) files in it.
  4. Save a new files from OpenOffice 3 to that share.

It takes ages for OpenOffice until the content of the directory is read from the server. As soon as the directory was read completely the file is saved with normal speed.

This has been reproduced from 2 machines across a WLAN which allows transfers speeds of 2 MByte/sec. The read speed for the directory seen on the IP monitor widget is only ~16 KB/sec.

Doing the same from a Windows OpenOffice 3 to the same Samba Server for eCS share is much faster. Therefore the culprit is either the Samba Client for eCS or OpenOffice 3 for eCS. More investigation is required.

This might be related or the same as Ticket #98.

logs, logs, and logs are needed. hey should tell if it's our plugin, of netdrive

The same applies when a file is opened from a Samba share using OOo 3.x.

The logs were produced by opening the Open File Dialog from OOo 3.2 on a Samba shared directory.
