Help start give unexpected results

Reported by: drowelf@… Owned by: RBRi
Priority: major Milestone:
Component: NewView Version: 2.18

Description

If you enter 'help start' from the command line I get information about starting the spooler, when the old view.exe would give me the syntax for the Start Command, which is what I want. I've seen other instances of the same kind of stuff. Entering help device does not get you the help for DEVICE=, but a subtopic.

Generally if a help xxxx should give you help on command XXXX if it exists. If that fails then a context search is necessary to see if there are any matching phrases.

I can't confirm that: 'help start' (without the quotes) opens CMDREF.INF correctly with the START panel, actually with a German version of it. I'm using 2.19.b2 (since b3 crashes here on many files).

Resolution: fixed
Status: newclosed

The topic (by title) search was done on all topics without checking the hierarchy. Have changed this to a top down search. This makes the finds the important topics before checking the subtopics. Now it shows the same results as the old ibm one (tested it with your device sample).

Fix is in 2.19 beta 4

Now I see the problem. (BTW the verb "start" is not used in the German CMDREF.INF.)

I consider that as an important fix and understand now why the old NewView shows sometimes the wrong item.

Thanks, Ronald.

Any chance to download a bin version of beta 4 from your HP?

Are you sure about this? I tested in agonising detail with many cases from cmdref. I suppose it is possible that there was additional refinements I did not notice ..

By the way, this search is described in the help file - should be updated.
