R8169 Zero-Mac and connection termination

Description

I have a new PC with a Gigabyte GA-Z68X-UD3H-B3 motherboard. According to the insert included in the manual, I have a Realtek 8111E/F LAN adapter. MultiMac? 8169 0.0.4 successfully recognizes the card, but seems to fail at something (DHCP?) during boot (there is a >60 second pause where I expect DHCP to be happening). I can get one request out on Firefox before the connection goes dead.

netstat -n shows an all-zero MAC. I did use MPTS to manually set the MAC, but it did not help. In fact, even after setting that, netstat still shows an all-zero MAC.

I'm not sure what trace files you'll want (if any) so just ask.

I downloaded 0.1.0 but the WarpIn? package would not install. It gave me a number of error messages. I extracted the contents and (after some fuss) manually installed it. It seems to be worse. I still had to manually set the MAC address (an annoying additional step, but not that big of a deal) but whereas 0.0.4 would allow a single google search and then basically lock network access, 0.1.0 actually locks up the computer.

In the interim I have installed an old 10/100 PCI based card, but I do have an extra installation of eCS 2.1 which I will leave available for testing new versions of this driver. I would be happy to send in any reports/trace files/logs/ etc. Simply ask and I will get to it as soon as is practical.

On a side note, I in my initial report I mentioned that bootup was being delayed for ~60 and I attributed that to the 0.0.4 driver and/or a DHCP problem. It is still there with my supported PCI card, so it is likely due to something else entirely.

Apparently you have some things to fix before reporting a problem with a network driver.

After you get your boot issues and Warpin issues fixed, and after you get the Warpin package to install correctly allowing it to overwrite all the files it needs to, then please post the lantran.log and your protocol.ini files and I'll check to make sure it was installed correctly.

OK, I did a fresh install of eCS 2.1. I ran the WarpIn? package, it went off without a hitch. I ran MPTS and selected the driver, rebooted. Firefox froze the system when I opened it for the first time. I have attached the files you requested.

As far as the boot issues go, I have no idea what the issues are. The system just pauses after (seemingly) the last config.sys entry. I guess I could try inserting pause.sys at every other line for the last 5-10 entries, unless you have any other suggestions?

On a side note, I tried this driver on a MB with a Realtek 8111DL, and it seems to work beautifully.

If you would like to install the Trace version and capture a trace after booting, I will have a look at it to see what the driver thinks about your particular hardware configuration. See the Debugging Guide http://svn.ecomstation.nl/multimac/wiki/Debugging%20Guide for instructions. Just attach the trace output to this ticket.

Formatted Trace is attached. If you need anything else please just ask.

From the trace you supplied the driver appears to be operating correctly.

The new version contains updated firmware files which may affect your hardware. Please try the current version.

OK, sorry for the delay - it's been a busy week. I've downloaded and installed version 0.1.1 and the same behavior is exhibited. Going to www.eComStation.com will lock up the PC (only a hard reset works to reboot it) and the page doesn't even load entirely - the graphic with the lightning bolt and people on the telephone is only partially loaded before the freeze up.

I'll attach a trace file. Let me know if there's anything else I can do.
