Ensure compare directory displays reasonable counts after out of resource fallback

Description
Compare Directories no longer traps when it runs out of resources, but it does not always display the correct count of the files that are in the container window. This is probably a residual defect in the code that handles the fallback.
Counts are correct if there is no fallback.

This was not really broken in 3.9. What happens is that it can be really scroll to the container entries when the container has 30 records and the other container has 30,000.
