Description

From: Pasha

Maybe other users will comment this ticket and post their minds,

  • SNAP+ACPI
  • eCS 2.0 RC6a defines too many SET XXX =

As result, if you run mozilla (firefox) immeditialy from reboot only, after 6 .. N hours you can get: "There is not enough memory available to process this command. All available memory is in use. (8)".

It's necessary add other remarks related to this report

Pasha adds:

ENG: To install eCS 2.0 RC6a disable uniaud or acpi, remove unnecessary SET XXX=

e-co:

Let's use tools to compare different version of OS, ACPI and Uniaud

-> utility monitors free memory in the shared arena: http://www.dfsee.com/download/shmemmon.zip

I also have seen this with Firefox 2.0.0.19. Wondered what might be causing the problem.

Maybe there is another reason why Firefox crashes that is much more logical:

This is from ticket number 2038 in eComStation bug tracker, read the link.

Jan Lauer reported that Karlheinz Schimdthaus also has this problem. I just talked to him. He has utility to report amount of shared memory used.

It is possible to import settings in a profile (don't remember how). We could look into reducing the amount of memory firefox uses.

http://www.thinktechno.com/2007/10/07/comprehensive-guide-on-how-to-reduce-the-memory-usage-in-firefox/

about.config browser.cache.memory.capacity

The integer value you enter depends on the amount of RAM you have. If you have: 256 MB of RAM, enter “4096” 512 MB of RAM, enter “8192” 1 GB of RAM, enter “16384” and so forth… Just double the number as your RAM doubles.

I set it to open about:config in the url

then add an integer with the name browser.cache.memory.capacity

set it 1024 and see what that does

Seeing if this takes away the problem on my system. It seems this problem is also around on Windows. A friend of mine also has this on Windows. End of ticket.

Pasha can you provide details ?

Why would ACPI have problems with memory because of firefox loaded ? Next to that we have the earlymeminit=true in the config.sys since we started shipping eCS 2.0 6a.

And even if this Firefox problem could cause system problems, its not interesting right now because we have many more tickets that need to be fixed because these systems don't even start up at all with ACPI.

What do we discuss?

eCS 2.0 RC6a installation? SNAP troubles? Pasha offered to fix video memory is installing SNAP.

or Firefox/Seamonkey? and SET variables?

Pasha: Where SET is stored? maybe buffer of fixed size, maybe in low memory which is over.

This discussion is not realy important right now. Lets first fix systems that don't even startup properly with ACPI like ticket

313 320 344 357 for example. ACPI might get a lot more stable if we find the true cause where these problems are.

Note: See TracTickets for help on using tickets.
