Dell Inspiron 9300 locks at boot loading helperw.exe
Reported by: | Yuri Dario | Owned by: | pasha |
---|---|---|---|
Priority: | major | Milestone: | Release version 3.12 |
Component: | ACPI PSD | Version: | 3.10 |
Keywords: | dell inspiron 9300 | Cc: |
Description
With latest acpi driver releases, the boot sequence sometimes stops loading helperw.exe (genmac) and I need to press the power off button for 20 seconds to power down the notebook.
Behaviour of previous drivers:
3.7 the best one, no locks at boot;
3.8 lock at every boot;
3.9 frequent locks;
3.10 random locks, can boot most of the times (except when you are in a hurry.... murphy laws);
No special messages or traps at lock, simply the system freeze hard.

I suspect it is helperw because, while booting with altf2on.$$$, the last line shown on screen is the name of the last DEVICE entry in my config.sys.
And the next statement to be executed is helperw.exe (proved by successfull boots).
One strange thing is that I expect to see D:\ecs\system\genmac\DRIVER\HELPERW.EXE shown on screen (RUN=xx\helperw.exe is first line in config.sys).
I tried different DEVICE ordering in config.sys and always got same lock.

I am sorry for stupid question,
do you have attached USB devices? usb flashdisk, usb harddrive

The following devices are connected:
- usb mouse
- usb hub
- usb 12in1 card reader (without cards at boot)
- usb printer (but always off at boot)

it is not an usb issue, I got it locking twice at boot also with all usb devices removed.

1) Please try ACPI 3.11
2) run http://ecomstation.ru/projects/acpitools/download/acpi-test.cmd

Installed 3.11, first boot is ok, more on this in the next days :-)
acpitest is ok, it only tell me to install kernel .104a, here I'm running .104b: do I need to downlevel?
