AMD chipset is not supported by eComStation ACPI.PSD

comment:2 Changed 16 years ago by Chuck McKinnis

Activated SMP kernel Tried variations to /SMP /PIC and /APIC in with/without /!NOD Still get the halt in resource.sys, but can now see the message since I've now removed the os2logo.

It states:

A disk error occured Insert a system diskette and restart the system

The problem doesn't show up if I remove the params from acpi.psd

e-co:

btw, Do you use Bootable JFS?

comment:4 Changed 16 years ago by Chuck McKinnis

Yes, I use Bootable JFS, is that a problem?!

Well, I also tested with os2acpi.psd and it enabled the 4 processors and booted, though froze when the gui came up (wait cursor and background).

comment:5 Changed 16 years ago by eco

e-co:

Your bootable drive: x:

If you are using bootable JFS then upgrade to BooJFS'2007 (released in the second part of year? don't remember) (update ujfs.dll, jfs.ifs on x:)

boot from eCS 2.0 RC4 CD, remove x:\OS2BOOT on harddisk, sysinstx x:

run chkdsk x: /f

comment:6 Changed 16 years ago by Chuck McKinnis

Ehhh, I don't quite follow?

It's a new eCs v2.0 RC4 installation made on Monday to a fresh computer, shouldn't it contain those new files you mention?

Do you mean remove the hidden file OS2BOOT from c: and run sysinstx c:? Ain't that an old app for OS/2 installation?

chkdsk c: /f when i remove params such as /SMP etc. report that everything is ok, it also boot the desktop real fine then.

I can let you access the computer through VNC if you like and can, just mention time and place ( I'm busy the whole day on Saturday though ).

comment:7 Changed 16 years ago by Chuck McKinnis

Eugene in that package what is the buildlevel of UJFS.DLL ?

This is what is in eCS 2.0 RC 4.

Build Level Display Facility Version 6.12.675 Sep 25 2001 (C) Copyright IBM Corporation 1993-2001 Signature: @#SSI:1.7#@Utils JFS/eCS Vendor: SSI Revision: 1.07 File Version: 1.7 Description: Utils JFS/eCS

And why would the file system matter ?

comment:8 Changed 16 years ago by eco

OK.. if you have eCS 2.0 RC4 then ignore my suggestion

comment:9 Changed 16 years ago by Chuck McKinnis

Noticed something else:

Other people have reported and even sent you pictures that resemble this, though they get something more after the message appear about "A disk error occured...". ( Because of debug version perhaps )

Removed everything related to multimedia and tried os2apic.psd again, it didn't even load the graphic mode ( wait cursor and background color ) this time, just rebooted right away, could have continued forever. :-(

Some suggestion on something else you want me to try or do?

AMD chipset => ACPI doesn't work in SMP.

We are thinking how to find test hardware..

Have tested 3.08 as well, debug version active as of now...

comment:13 Changed 16 years ago by jep

Tested ACPI 3.11 though support has been postponed until 3.12 It report 1 processor in boot info without /SMP /ACPI or /SMP /PIC params tried /FS and /AFS too, but the halt in resource.sys is still there.

Also tried the tool by Henk Kelder?! (ported from linux) to list all devices, it hang at a certain point when I think it tries to enter and list resouces for the network card (RTL8168).

Additional info, not related: HDA ALC888, UNIAud 1.9.6 (build r372) work, even for startup sound. PM123 can't play music though as MCI give a fault back. :-(

Summary: Quad Core CPU no /SMP, /APIC or /PIC seem to workQuad Core AMD CPU no /SMP, /APIC or /PIC seem to work
Version: 3.053.14

Inital test of eComStation rc6a and ACPI 3.14 indicate progress.

After removing the 5 occurances of ...USBOHCD.SYS and 1 USBEHCD.SYS preceeding any other USB related drivers it booted beyond the boot logo with /SMP /APIC. As a matter of fact it ran with all 4 cores activated, all the way until it was supposed to leave text mode.

When I set /SMP /PIC, it even showed me the light blue background and pointer (busy clock) as it halted.

Guess I should remove the SBLive Sound Card physically and try again... more info later.

e-co:

hey!!

we didn't planned that your PC will work :) Keep it in 1 CPU mode.

OK..

there are some advices in http://ecomstation.ru/projects/acpitools/?action=trouble-acpi about APIC SMP

comment:16 Changed 15 years ago by jep

Some USB related drivers where listed earlier in config.sys than I read in my last post, but it halted on USBOHCD.SYS when /SMP /APIC was used.

Well, removed the SB Live card from the slot and tried again, it can now see the built in ALS888 HDA, but it "Trap000d" instead. :-<

Used the vacuum cleaner on the mobo and removed the dust I could find on the fan.

REMmed out "all" device statements in config.sys as suggested in the docs, USB, network, dos, sound, printer, com etc.

chkdsk c: /f too, but nope, id didn't like it even though I used /PIC

I guess my computer heard that you didn't add support for it and got angry. ;-)

AMD chipset can't be supported in IBM kernel

comment:19 Changed 15 years ago by ecsnl

Can this code not be put in OS2BOOT you discussed this on the ACPI mailing list.

Roderick

comment:20 Changed 15 years ago by pasha

May be possible. May be no. Need try, but this try need half year for try all verriants. And only for JFS boot.

comment:21 Changed 15 years ago by ecsnl

Dear customer,

A short reply. This is still in research it means that AMD chipset is currently not supported.

Best regards,

Hello,

can see that you ask for Feedback regarding improvements to ACPI in related tickets, but there's no relevant info of what you want those people to do. However, I would like to test if rewrites to ACPI has improved anything on my AMD Quad computer if you think it's to any use.

Current status: The version 3.18 included with eComSation v2.0 GA allow me to boot so far that I can see the graphics mode show with the mouse pointer. I have to disable all 8 instances of USBOHCD.SYS and UNIAUD to get that far though.

/SMP /PIC Doesn't matter if I remove all or just a few drivers from config.sys, it boot up to the point where the busy cursor is visible or command prompt. SMPPICCMD.jpg and SMPPICCMD2.jpg See acpismppiccmdquad.log

/SMP /APIC Halt/hang at a point where I'd expect it to load the graphical stage och command line. Doesn't seem to matter if I remove all or just a few drivers from config.sys SMPAPICLOCKUP.jpg and SMPAPICLOCKUP2.jpg Harder to retrieve a log?!

Have you usb drivers?

comment:29 Changed 13 years ago by jep

I did have usb trivers during some of the tests, but I also tried without any of them, but the problem remained the same.

Who's working on the automated tester? You Pasha? Need any input/help?

Every line that seem to relate to USB... It crasch in OS2Kernel right before ti should load the GUI if I change it to /ACPI

comment:33 Changed 13 years ago by pasha

/ACPI is absent options, I beleive, that you are mean /APIC.

Can you add USB drivers and try boot this

The text mention updated version of doscall1.dll as well as new and updated keyboard drivers. Where can one get those to test if it has solved the problems to go past loading the "desktop background"?!

comment:38 Changed 12 years ago by jep

Ahaaa, It's included in the package! But OS2AHCI.ADD is not included with eComStation 2.1 though it's supposed to?!

Anyway, I now have a waorking environment with 4 cores enabled and the desktop is up!

Thank you!
