#533 unknown Poor performance, trap e and no power off on Intel 945C SBC David Azarewicz BlondeGuy
Description

I'm working with an single board computer in a passive backplane industrial computer. Intel 945C-based system. Works without ACPI, but does not power off. Works with ACPI 3.18, but does not power off and did not attempt /SMP. CPU is single core hyperthreading CPU.

ACPI 3.19.15 booted OK first time, but no power off. Second time, I got the situation (which every version of ACPI has always done occasionally on every machine I've ever tried.) with high CPU use. I didn't try this time, but CPUSPEED usually will show both CPU running at radically different speeds.

I tried to power off, and I got trap E. See attachment for register dump screen.

#458 Unsupported Version Report on MSI GX623X notebook + issues eco BoldosOneCS
Description

Installed Silver on MSI GX623X-026CZ notebook. The ACPI is partially working, generally the system is quite usable.

There are following (major) issues though: 1) ACPI is not able to detect the CPU type, Motherboard manufacturer & type, BIOS type and version. It detects Core2Duo (P7350) CPU as: family = Intel Pentium Pro/II/III/Celeron, AMD Athlon/Duron?, Cyrix M2, VIA C3 (6); (simple synth) = Intel Pentium III / Pentium III Xeon (Katmai), .25um which seems to be completely wrong. Strangely enough - when forcing /SMP /APIC - ACPI happily initializes both CPU cores (and seems to be pretty stable :))!

  • Uptime, AcpiBattery?, TmrTest? are working, Setgetstate (State set error rc=5) and Thermal (Status 0x0 0 - No error) are not! Even the reactor widget is not able to detect the CPU temperature :( On laptop these things mean no power/consumption scaling...
  • with ACPI without parameters the system shuts down. With /SMP /APIC the system is able to reboot, but hangs on shutdown. Under SMP also the "Shutdown" dialog is stating that the ACPI level is "0.00" - bug!
  • S3 Sleep in UNI mode: is working (I can tell by system reacting on my keyboard commands) but fails to reinit the video. /VBE produces hangs on wakeup. Tested >all< VBE save modes.
  • S3 Sleep in SMP mode: is not working, hang on wakeup, when /VBE used the video initializes but only "memory data" are splashed through out the screen and hang is following.
  • there seem to be some issues with NIC (GenMAC) init on boot. Happens only "sometimes", usually after a hard crash. At least two reboots necessary afterwards to init the GenMAC NIC properly. It also seems that without ACPI (in Legacy mode) it is just not possible to init the NIC at all! This also might be a problem of GenMAC, not directly related to ACPI.
  • versions 3,17 and 3.18PK seem to have the same effect on this notebook.

Thank you very much a keep up the good work :)

#37 fixed Gradual degredation and then system locks up w/20070817 anonymous Carl
Description

Since installing the ACPI-APM-20070817 packages, I have been having several problems:

Environment:

  • eCS 1.2R, w/all known fixes as applied by eCSMT
  • TPad T60 - Core Duo [not Core 2 Duo]
  • GenMac? for Network support, wired and wireless, generally working just fine now.
  • Comet mouse [which is the only way I know the system is about to lock up]

[If more specifics are required, please ask.]

1) All of a sudden the mouse 'tail' does not disappear from the screen. The system gets slower and slower and eventually clicking on any window, object, etc., does nothing. ReBoot? is required.

2) IF I happen to catch #1 soon enough and can click on eCenter to try to ReBoot?, I sometimes get as far as clicking on 'Shutdown' but then nothing happens. A-C-D brings up the small message box that "System is rebooting..." but it just hangs there. The Power Off Button is required to complete the shutdown/reboot. And, I have to hold the button down for about 5 seconds before the system will actually power off. Power On then reboots OK. Usually, but not always, the HD volumes are clean and CHKDSKs are not required.

The time from one reboot to the failure/lock up varies from a few minutes [less than ten] to hours. I cannot tie the problem to any application. I've stopped all user tasks such as PMMail, SeaMonkey?, editors, et al. The system remains locked except for being able to move the mouse around. [The comet trail usually remains on the screen 'permanently' until I reboot.]

I have not yet gone to the effort of trying to back out the 20070817 level. I installed with the 'acpifu-20070817.wpi' file, so I assume WarpIN can do this. [I've never had to back out any package before.]

Any ideas, suggestions? Any other documentation that I can provide?
