Samba for eComStation (OS/2)
Samba is a free implementation of the CIFS/SMB protocol for Unix, which allows LAN-Server style file and printer sharing among machines running Windows, Mac OS, Unix or eComStation (OS/2). The goal of this project is to port the Samba server and create Samba clients for eCS (OS/2) in order to replace the functionality of the outdated IBM-LAN-Requester/Peer/Server components.
The eComStation (OS/2) server port is very fast and stable, and although still incomplete, very usable for daily work. It can be used to perform the following tasks:
- share files among eCS (OS/2), Windows, Mac OS and Unix machines, including extended attribute support.
- share printers among eCS (OS/2), Windows, Mac OS and Unix machines.

Note: Samba 3.3.x builds currently come as drop-in replacements for a previous installation of any recent 3.0.x build.
Note: You cannot go back from 3.3.x to 3.0.x easily, as the internal format of the tdb files has been changed between 3.0.x and 3.3.x. If you intend to go back, please backup all tdb files in \lock and \private directories before updating and restore from backup before going back.
Note: While 3.3.x binaries have been tested for several weeks now and seem to work well in general, bear in mind that 3.3.x is still beta software and work in progress and therefore not ready for production use.
Note: Currently 3.3.x offers exactly one benefit over 3.0.x: Ticket 59 is gone. GUI-Tools and scripts work with 3.3.x, but only make little use of new features found in Samba 3.3.x.

Note for the knitpickers: This is no fake, but a hybrid Samba 3.0.36/37 running in order to work around an issue found in recent 3.0.37 nmbd.exe builds, which is under investigation.
