Double-clicking the desired page in the navigation pane will bring things back in sync.

This is mostly noticeable in PDFs with graphics, where more rendering time is required. In this case, it might be prudent to monitor the page control and wait for the user to stop advancing (or going back), then ""jump"" to the selected page, instead of trying to keep up.
