#381 cannot open multiple documents simultaneously Backend 1.5.0 1.5.0 defect Lewis Rosenthal assigned Feb 9, 2020 Dec 8, 2020 erdmann

Lucide 1.5.0:

can only open one PDF. Opening a second one with first one still open leads to error: "cannot find suitable plugin for document" and a zombie lucide.exe will continue to execute in the background which needs to be killed via the C-A-D commander or similar

#261 XPS plugin Lucide Core 1.3 1.4.2 enhancement new Dec 23, 2015 Nov 23, 2020 Lewis Rosenthal

Add support for reading XPS documents. As discussed in ticket #260, GhostPDL may be a viable option, as it renders XPS.

#384 Lucide blocks Presentation Manager Backend 1.5.0 1.5.0 defect new Jun 16, 2020 Jun 20, 2020 shmuel

Opening a large PDF file blocks (clock symbol) the Presentation Manager. If I download https://publibfp.dhe.ibm.com/epubs/pdf/a227832c.pdf to a JFS partition on a SSD and open it, Lucide blocks PM for 10-20 seconds. See https://mantis.arcanoae.com/view.php?id=1987 for background.

#383 F9 hotkey does not switch the navigation pane on/off UI 1.5.0 1.5.0 defect new Jun 15, 2020 Jun 15, 2020 Alfredo Fernández Díaz

If you try to turn on/off the navigation panel of the application window using the F9 key as listed in the manual, nothing happens. The corresponding application menu item works as expected using either the keyboard or mouse. F5 and F11, as listed under the same menu, seem to work.

This is Lucide 1.5.0 on a freshly installed AOS -- quickly tested on a couple other systems, same result.

#377 Lucide is incredibly slow reading PDFs over network (Samba share) Plugin: PDF 1.4.0 1.4.1 defect new Apr 23, 2019 Jun 13, 2020 darcio

I have the latest Lucide test version installed and as I attempted to move my locally stored documents to the LAN NAS box (ZyXel? 325 V2) I discovered that attempting to view any PDFs stored on that NAS box is incredibly slow. Local storage is fast though.

I'm using NetDrive? ( here with the latest Samba client (samba-client.i686 - 4.9.5-1.oc00). Indeed, reading other files appears to move along pretty quickly, JPG images are fast, as are MP4 files. Only the PDFs appear to suffer.

I opened a thread on this topic here (https://www.os2world.com/forum/index.php/topic,2034.0.html). Paul reviewed the samba client logs and ollowing some troubleshooting suggestions I discovered that Lucide 1.3.5 GA does not appear to suffer from the same problem.

Not sure what additional info/logs to provide at the moment to help troubleshoot further.

#382 Luide closes when opening a pdf or jpeg file Backend 1.5.0 1.5.0 defect new May 21, 2020 May 21, 2020 morcvomorc

Program closes immediately without any error message. the behavior is the same if i go through Lucide -> open or if i do a rmb click on the file itself and choose Lucide as the program to open with. Files can be opened without any issue with other applications (e.g. pdf with qpdfview).

I have ArcaOS 5.04 with all available updates on netlabs-rel. Reinstall of Lucide did not solve the issue.

#269 Test file link collector Backend 1.3.6 1.4.2 task new Mar 21, 2016 Apr 8, 2020 Lewis Rosenthal

#334 Lucide does not show all fields that can be edted. Backend 1.4.0 1.4.2 defect new Dec 23, 2016 Apr 2, 2020 dgbisse

I have a form PPTC153.pdf (attached) that has fields that can be edited. Some fields do not enable for editing. They do show in QPDFView, and they are dropdown lists. Specifically in section 1: Marital status, and Province/Territory/State?. In section 4, there is something similar in Country, but no dropdown arrow.

There may be more, that I haven't stumbled over.

#342 Lucide does not print on a postscript printer PDF files generated by Scribus Backend 1.4.0 1.4.1 defect new Mar 8, 2017 Apr 2, 2020 elygre

Lucide starts with a message about generating postscript file. It takes a long time. While working sounds from the printer indicates something is going on. A lamp on the printer telling it is loading the data, and then it stops and nothing is printed. I can print the same document on the same printer if I select to print it as image, but the quality of the included images is too bad. The printer is a Epson WorkForce? Pro - WF-5190. I have to take the PDF-file and copy it to a WIN-10 partition and print it using Adobe.. There is no problems with printing postscript files from other programs.

#374 Postscript Printer Xerox Phaser 8550DP prints PS-code only! Backend 1.4.0 1.4.1 defect Lewis Rosenthal assigned Mar 4, 2019 Apr 2, 2020 Pecos8

But Lucide is only usable, if with PMVIEW a screenshot is taken and printed with PMVIEW.

Thanks for Your efforts.

#361 It should be possible to clear the search highlighting by searching on an empty search string. Backend 1.4.0 1.4.1 enhancement Gregg Young reopened Sep 23, 2018 Mar 20, 2019 Gregg Young

#368 Find not working in some cases Backend 1.4.0 1.4.1 defect new Dec 11, 2018 Mar 13, 2019 shmuel

I am creating a PDF file from a LaTeX file that uses the hyperref package. I compiled the file with the pdflatex option of MiKTeX. The output is annotated with strings of the form {label}, and I am able to copy those to the clipboard. However, a search for those strings fails. The LaTeX source is too large to upload, so I will attempt to reproduce this with a smaller file.

To verify that the problem was in Lucide rather than the file, I opened it in Acrobat and did the same searches, which did find the strings.

#375 Page number input fields are extremely user unfriendly. UI 1.4.1 1.4.1 defect new Mar 10, 2019 Mar 10, 2019 dazarewicz

Normally, in previous versions, you could click on a page number input field, backspace and type the page number you wanted. Now you can't.

Previously, you could edit the number by typing, backspacing, etc. to provide the page number you wanted. Now you can't.

It seems that now the page number entry fields only allow in-range, perfectly valid page numbers *always* even while entering the number. This is extreme and extremely unfriendly. Page number entry fields should allow anything to be typed, including a blank field, until the filed is exited. Checking should only be done on exiting the entry field.

#254 edited fill-in pdfs display/print old data Plugin: PDF 1.3 1.4.1 defect Gregg Young assigned Mar 15, 2013 Mar 1, 2019 Steven Levine

If a field in a saved fill-in pdf is edited, the old data reappears after the pdf is saved and reloaded. This is probably a poppler defect/regression. The new data is in the pdf, but so is the old data. Since pdfs are effectively read backwards, it is easy to understand how this could occur.

#373 Inconsistent font for fill-in fields Plugin: PDF 1.4.0 1.4.1 defect new Mar 1, 2019 Mar 1, 2019 Lewis Rosenthal

When completing a fill-in PDF, the font used when typing sometimes is absolutely so tiny as to not be legible. After leaving the field, the font usually changes to something more legible (larger, perhaps bold, and in a color contrasting with the surrounding text).

The font should be legible while typing, and should not change overly much after leaving the field (perhaps normal while typing and bold after). IAC, the font needs to be be of a readable size when entering data in the field, even if the entry must scroll horizontally for longer strings.

#315 Navigation pane is not kept in sync with location in document when contents are nested UI 1.3.6 1.4.1 defect new Sep 12, 2016 Feb 28, 2019 Lewis Rosenthal

When the Navigation pane has nested contents, moving from page to page non-sequentially via the toolbar or the Go to page dialog will not reposition (or expand) the tree.

It seems that the first two digits entered the first time anything is entered will move the bounce bar in the nav pane. After that, First/Last, Previous/Next, or any entry in the field generally leaves the bounce bar in place (thus, it moves once).

I was able to get it to finally expand a section with a page jump from the Go to page dialog, but only once in a 125-page document.

#265 Page content not always in sync with page indicators (lag when changing pages) Lucide Core 1.3.5 1.4.1 defect new Jan 19, 2016 Feb 28, 2019 Lewis Rosenthal

This is likely related to #121. the symptom is that when using the toolbar to quickly move from page to page, it is easy to get "ahead" of the viewing window, which somehow gets left behind, sometimes several pages behind. Double-clicking the desired page in the navigation pane will bring things back in sync.

This is mostly noticeable in PDFs with graphics, where more rendering time is required. In this case, it might be prudent to monitor the page control and wait for the user to stop advancing (or going back), then "jump" to the selected page, instead of trying to keep up.

#274 Once a document has been Saved As, don't prompt to save the document upon closing Backend 1.3.6 1.4.1 defect Gregg Young assigned Mar 22, 2016 Feb 28, 2019 Lewis Rosenthal

PDF form fill-in. Data populated in form. Document | Save As... New name given to copy of document. Exit Lucide. Prompt appears to save the current document.

There are a few reasons for this. The most basic is that when we save a document as another document, we should then switch to that new document for editing (logically). Unfortunately, there does not yet exist a simple Save option (only Save As...), so the only opportunity we get to save the original document is upon exit. See #273 for related behavior.

#371 For hyperlinks, add context menu item "Copy link location" Plugin: PDF future 1.4.1 enhancement new Jan 22, 2019 Jan 22, 2019 Lewis Rosenthal

Now that we have hyperlinks working and displaying in tooltips (see #356), as well as handy context menus, we should make the context menu more useful by offering to copy the URI to the clipboard.

Currently, selecting Copy from the context menu copies some of the underlying text in the document, which by itself is sub-optimal.

I'm only marking this as an RFE for the PDF plugin, though the implementation may be useful for other document types, as well (DjVu?, perhaps).

#370 Better navigation of form fields in fill-in PDFs Plugin: PDF 1.4.1 enhancement new Jan 1, 2019 Jan 1, 2019 Lewis Rosenthal

It should be possible to <Tab> and <shift-Tab> to move between input fields in fill-in PDF documents. Currently (1.4.1 RC2), <Tab> switches the focus from the current field to the current page itself.

#369 radio buttons not yet supported Plugin: PDF 1.4.0 1.4.1 enhancement new Dec 29, 2018 Dec 29, 2018 Steven Levine

The PDF at

has fill-in radio buttons in Section 2 Type of plan. It would be handy if these worked.

It would be good if the implemenation allowed the button selections to be cleared in case of error. For this PDF, the radio buttons only apply for an employer plan.

#173 Cannot handle scripted PDF forms (dropdowns, etc.) Lucide Core 1.3 1.4.1 enhancement Gregg Young assigned Apr 12, 2010 Oct 5, 2018 hanno

Thanks for your great work and the feature to fill forms!

In general it works, but I have a "difficult" form with some problems (so I included a file to test):

  • If there is a pulldown menu within the PDF, no data entry is possible (see field "fur den Kalendermonat")
  • font size problems
  • calculations are not made within the form

I think it's the best to test this PDF with Acrobat Reader 5.1.0, to see how it should work.

Thanks again! Hanno

#271 Create thumbnails in background Backend 1.3.6 1.4.1 enhancement Gregg Young assigned Mar 21, 2016 Oct 5, 2018 Lewis Rosenthal

Why should the user have to wait to view a document until after the thumbnail has been created? This should run in a separate thread in the background while the document is being viewed. This would also alleviate the some of the condition caused by the slow thumbnail creation issue described in #270.

#22 Open files in read mode and re-read the file after it has been changed Lucide Core 1.4.2 enhancement new Jun 11, 2006 Oct 2, 2018 julbts@…

Open the files in "read" mode, so they can also be accessed by other programs and it is allowed to write the file while it is already opened by Lucide. If the file has changed it has to be re-read! This is needed to use it as PDF-Viewer when someone creates PDF files with VTEX/2 (LaTeX).

You have to compare the last saved timestamp with the current timestamp when the Lucide window will be activated. If you have a background thread that will check the timestamps in the background this would be an option too. Look at the GSView source, which is supporting this feature since ages.

#42 Error reporting for plugin rendering API Lucide Core 1.0 Beta 1.1 1.4.2 enhancement new Jul 7, 2006 Oct 2, 2018 hn_netlabs_trac@…

When rendering a document page certain errors could arise in the plugin (e.g. out-of-memory, file no longer accessible, ...).

It is so far not possible for a plugin to report these errors to the Lucide core. Thus the user has no idea what went wrong. He/she probably just sees an empty page (or crap).

Proposal: Apply the same error reporting scheme used for loadFile() to renderToPixbuf() and renderToPS(). (boolean returned, error message via SOMMalloc)

#44 Index.html handing off to Index.djvu Lucide Core 1.4.2 enhancement new Jul 10, 2006 Oct 2, 2018 StuUpdike@…

I have noted on DjVU Zone that when a file is a pure DjVu? file, the Lucide displays it properly. However, there are numerous links which point to index.html files. They hand off immediately to files named index.djvu. Lucide runs and shows the pages in the bookmarks panel, but nothing ever shows in the document panel. When this happens Lucide either becomes unresponsive and I must CTRL+ESC to close it in the Window List or Lucide disappears all by itself.

Thank you,

Stu Updike Bedford, Texas USA

#104 SVG plugin Lucide Core 1.3 1.4.2 enhancement new Jan 17, 2007 Oct 2, 2018 guest

The support for viewing SVG files would be also nice.

Here is some info I have found on some libraries that could be used:

I know that with mozilla you can view SVG files, but if this is to be a universal viewer then... There are a lot of clip arts and other stuff around in SVG and some open source software that can do with SVG also like InkScape, Scribus can also use SVG files.

#121 Redrawing pages only when file has changed Lucide Core 1.4.2 enhancement new May 28, 2007 Oct 2, 2018 guest

When loading a file in GSView, heavy graphics are loaded slowly but this can be done in background because GSView will not redraw the page unless the file has changed. This cannot be done with Lucide. When Lucide loads the same page and is put in the background, it will load it again when going back to the front. You have to wait until the page is completely drawn without doing something else. This is very annoying when a file contains lots of heavy graphics.

#140 Allow plugin configuration via GUI Lucide Core 1.0 Beta 3 1.4.2 enhancement new Jun 4, 2008 Oct 2, 2018 guest

Add the possibility plugins to show a configuration dialog. This could be done by either adding a "Configure" button on the plugin list (simple) or creating a properties notebook, in which - besides Lucide core's own settings - plugins could insert pages for their own purpose (better but more complicated).

#149 WPS-Integration: Enable RMB-Print for PDF-Files Lucide Core 1.4.2 enhancement new Nov 11, 2008 Oct 2, 2018 batchheizer

It would be nice, if a user opens the context-menu of a PDF-file and clicks print than Lucide would send the document to the selected printer. OOorgWPS has this feature.

#202 Comic book support Lucide Core 1.4.2 enhancement new May 24, 2010 Oct 2, 2018 sparrac

If possible, it was nice add a new plugin to Lucide for read comic book files (with mainly CBZ and CBR file extensions). The Gnome (Evince) and KDE (Okular) viewers equivalent to Lucide usually have this feature.

Comic book files are only ZIP (CBZ) or RAR (RAR) archives with a set of numbered image files (usually JPG) inside.

Perhaps p7zip (LGPL) can be used for extraction of contents of the archives.

AFAIK, the only comic viewer that perhaps can be ported to eComStation now is YACReader (http://code.google.com/p/yacreader/).

More about this format:

#246 Need ability to annotate PDFs Plugin: PDF 1.3.6 1.4.2 enhancement reopened May 3, 2012 Oct 2, 2018 Lewis Rosenthal

Presently, Lucide has no facility for annotating PDFs (it is a viewer only, or can Save-As). Marking this core, as I do not believe that other formats have this capability, either.

#256 Add view thumbnails as option for navigation pane Lucide Core 1.3 1.4.2 enhancement new Dec 23, 2015 Oct 2, 2018 Lewis Rosenthal

Thumbnails allow quick motion through complex documents. This could be added from a context menu in the navigation pane along with a sub menu on the View menu.

#257 Add tabbed viewing Lucide Core 1.3 1.4.2 enhancement new Dec 23, 2015 Oct 2, 2018 Lewis Rosenthal

The ability to open multiple documents in different tabs instead of windows would be handy and likely conserve some memory (and screen real estate). Ideally, tab bar location should be configurable (top/bottom/side?). The navigation panel should reflect the currently-viewed tab content.

#260 PCL plugin Lucide Core 1.3 1.4.2 enhancement new Dec 23, 2015 Oct 2, 2018 Lewis Rosenthal

Add ability to view PCL files, perhaps using GhostPDL (which is licensed under AGPL, and while not compatible with LGPL, using this as a plugin may be allowed; more consideration is necessary).

#262 PS plugin Lucide Core 1.3 1.4.2 enhancement new Dec 23, 2015 Oct 2, 2018 Lewis Rosenthal

Add ability to render raw or encapsulated PostScript. As discussed in tickets #260 and #261, GhostPDL may provide this.

#298 Make progress meter more useful Lucide Core 1.3.6 1.4.2 enhancement new Aug 23, 2016 Oct 2, 2018 Lewis Rosenthal

When searching a long document, the progress dialog displays a notification of activity, but other than counting through the pages, it does not display meaningful progress as a % of completion. It would be useful (when searching a 1,000+ page tome, for example) to have a progress meter. Searching again should pick up where the last search left off in terms of the progress meter, too. Thus, if we stop 50% of the way through the document at the first hit, Ctrl+G should display the bar at 50% when it starts searching for the next hit.

#300 Add PDF details to WPS object context menu WPS 1.3.6 1.4.2 enhancement new Aug 28, 2016 Oct 2, 2018 Lewis Rosenthal

PMView has a handy feature of providing image details in the context menu, in addition to allowing image conversion. It would be nice if we could better integrate with the WPS to provide PDF details (type, #pages, creator, author - essentially what we get from View | Document info).

#302 Support PDF attachments (security envelopes) Plugin: PDF 1.3.6 1.4.2 enhancement new Aug 31, 2016 Oct 2, 2018 Lewis Rosenthal

Apparently, Poppler provides support for these. Acrobat has the ability to wrap multiple files (PDF and non-PDF) inside a PDF, and optionally password-protect or secure the envelope with a certificate. In addition, each attachment may require a password for decrypting and saving.

It also appears that Poppler can return additional document details (for the info dialog) for such PDFs, including whether there are indeed attachments and what those attachments are.

#304 Cannot search searchable DjVu files with OCR layer Plugin: DjVu 1.3.6 1.4.2 defect new Aug 31, 2016 Oct 2, 2018 Lewis Rosenthal

Testing has revealed that we are either unable to render the OCR layer of "searchable" DjVu files or we do not recognize them as searchable. We're in good company, though, as I was not able to get Okular on Linux to search them, either. Instead, both apps just see them as image files.

For my test, I converted a true PDF (generated text) to DjVu using pdf2djvu (on Linux), and then ran ocrodjvu against that, which processes the text using tesseract. I find it hard to believe that DjVuLibre cannot recognize the OCR layer, yet both Lucide and Okular saw no apparent difference between the two versions.

We should consider investigating this, if there is sufficient interest in searching DjVu files.

#316 Navigating from encrypted PDF without entering password or canceling and accepting does not work as expected UI 1.3.6 1.4.2 enhancement new Sep 13, 2016 Oct 2, 2018 Lewis Rosenthal

When moving from one document to another either via Shift-PgUp/Shift-PgDn or Ctrl-O, upon encountering a password-protected PDF, one must enter the password and click OK to decrypt before moving to the next document or click Cancel and then OK to dismiss the notification dialog. The main menu is not accessible, either, to select Document | Open...

A better way to handle this would be to allow keyboard accelerators from the password dialog, at least.

#322 Please improve plugin dependency handling UI 1.4.0 1.4.2 enhancement new Sep 19, 2016 Oct 2, 2018 rbri

While testing the latest RC build (RC3), the djvu plugin was missing from the list of installed plugins. This was simply because i missed the required djvu libs. After installing them the plugins are back.

I like to suggest:

  • the list of plugins should contain a list of all detected plugins
  • if the installation of a plugin fails, the dialog should list this plugin together with a (hopefully helpful) error message

#326 Visio plugin Lucide Core 1.4.0 1.4.2 enhancement new Sep 25, 2016 Oct 2, 2018 Lewis Rosenthal

Something based upon libvisio might be nice. libvisio is part of LibreOffice, but the library should be useful beyond that. This handles .VSD and .VSDX files (not .VXD/.VXDX stencils).

More information on the later .VSDX format may be found in the Microsoft Developers Network article Introduction to the Visio file format (.vsdx).

#168 add: "fit to page" Lucide Core 1.2 1.4.1 enhancement new Mar 22, 2010 Oct 2, 2018 phil

This would greatly help printing journal articles downloaded from publishers' Web sites. Most journals have smaller pages than letter (or A4) size, and "fit to page" makes their small fonts more readable.

#236 Cannot advance to next image (Shift-PgDn) when viewing document when multiple plugins handle same type Lucide Core 1.3 1.4.1 defect new Jan 12, 2012 Oct 2, 2018 Lewis Rosenthal

Shift-PgDn works as expected with all document types I've tested, except JPG, where the same image is simply reloaded. Shift-PgUp *does* work, however, even on these files. (1.3.4b2)

I'm marking this as core, but it's liable to be in the JPG plugin; I don't know the code to make that determination.

PS - Need to add 1.3.4 beta releases to the Version dropdown in Trac.

#258 Add selectable print ranges Lucide Core 1.3 1.4.1 enhancement new Dec 23, 2015 Oct 2, 2018 Lewis Rosenthal

Print ranges should support multiple selectable ranges, such as:

This would be in addition to even/odd, which is currently available, and implemented for a different purpose.

#259 Enhance print layout options Lucide Core 1.3 1.4.1 enhancement new Dec 23, 2015 Oct 2, 2018 Lewis Rosenthal

Booklet and 4-up printing would be convenient, as would be flip-book (top/bottom with binding in the middle). Ideally, a graphical representation of the page layout (vs a page preview) would accompany this feature. This should be added as a separate menu item on the Document (or File, IMO) menu, as Page setup.

#281 Add preference for measurements (mm vs in) Printing 1.3.5 1.4.1 enhancement new Aug 1, 2016 Oct 2, 2018 Lewis Rosenthal

When setting print margins, the measurement is hardcoded in mm. This is less than convenient for those of us in the US.

Suggest making units configurable.

#301 Support digitally signed PDFs Plugin: PDF 1.3.6 1.4.1 enhancement new Aug 29, 2016 Oct 2, 2018 Lewis Rosenthal

This is a tracking bug for uplevel support in Poppler which is getting close (available in core, but not in cpp, yet).

PDFs may be encrypted with digital signatures instead of passwords. Currently, Lucide cannot handle these files, instead presenting a password dialog to the user.

Any application is able to print on my laser printer except LUCIDE 1.3.4. and predessor. Transfer of output from Lucide to printpool works. Ready light on printer is ON. After transfer of output to printer the ready light goes OFF and error light is blinking.

When I hit the start button in this situation the printer lights are switching back and the printer prints the output without any problems. I can expirience this behaviour on any of my PCs and printers.

#317 Better detection of encryption method needed Plugin: PDF 1.3.6 1.4.1 enhancement new Sep 16, 2016 Oct 2, 2018 Lewis Rosenthal

If we are presented with an encryption type which we cannot handle, e.g., certificate, we need to present a more useful dialog or notification to the user. Presently, we present the Password dialog anytime we encounter an encrypted document, even if that document cannot be opened (unsupported) or uses a certificate (likewise currently unsupported, but in any case would never require a password).

I'm not sure how much detail Poppler returns beyond RC4, AES, and AES-256, so we may not yet be able to tell what encryption is being used.

#276 Add modifiers to expand/collapse all tree items in navigation pane UI 1.3.6 1.4.1 enhancement new Mar 24, 2016 Oct 2, 2018 Lewis Rosenthal

Suggest Ctrl-LMB as toggle to expand/collapse all collapsible items in navigation pane. It seems that Ctrl+ is already used for zoom, even if the navigation pane is currently selected. I have no suggestion for a keyboard-only accelerator, except perhaps "/" and "\" (for expand all and collapse all, respectively).

Note: See TracReports for help on using and creating reports.
