T61: After SUSPEND/RESUME memory stick is not assigned a drive letter

Reported by: Barry Landy Owned by: somebody
Priority: minor Component: basedrv
Version: Keywords:
Cc:

Description

Using version 181/182 with ACPI3.19.15 on a T61 (built in 2 slot USB2)

Suspend resume now works

However, I have an 8GB memory stick with one partition one it (created by DFSEE). On a fresh boot when I plub that in and call "refresh removable media" the drivletter requested (J) is assigned.

After SUSPEND/RESUME this no longer happens.

The relevant piece of config.sys is:

BASEDEV=USBEHCD.SYS BASEDEV=USBEHCD.SYS BASEDEV=USBUHCD.SYS BASEDEV=USBUHCD.SYS BASEDEV=USBUHCD.SYS BASEDEV=USBUHCD.SYS BASEDEV=USBUHCD.SYS BASEDEV=USBD.SYS BASEDEV=USBMSD.ADD /FLOPPIES:0 /REMOVABLES:2

PCI.EXE reports ICH8/82801H

Not sure it will fix the problem but the readme says that usbehcd must follow usbuhcd in config.sys.

Please try with the 10.162 drivers and report. I am not sure if ACPI 3.19.15 properly handles suspend/resume.
Next step is to take a trace of trace codes 224 (USBUHCD.SYS) and 226 (USBEHCD.SYS). Just follow the readme.txt on how to do that. Go through a suspend/resume cycle and then save away the FORMATTED trace.

severity: highest

Wait for ACPI.PSD version 3.20.4. It fixes a bug in APM.ADD. The bug would prevent the suspend/resume code in the HC drivers USB(U|O|E)HCD.SYS from being executed.

Sorry for lack of earlier response: David A told me that ACPI (pre 3.20.04) was not supposed to support suspend/resume except by luck.

Please to report that with 3.20.04 and this version of USB 184 suspend resume on the T61 works apparently 100% (mouse is available after resume and even the internet connection).

(earlier USB versions may also be OK but its not worth the testing)

Version 185: suspend/resume works fine from the suspend option on the ACPI setup icon but not using the lid close option which worked OK under the updated 184,

Can you please find out if it is USBEHCD.SYS or USBUHCD.SYS that is causing this problem ?

comment:8 by Barry Landy, 12 years ago

I tried switching one at a time and nothing helped, so I restored 184 and rebooted. Lid down -> sleep then worked. I then put 185 back one at a time and sleep on lid down STILL worked. After reboot still the same. So I have no idea what stopped the lid down working but its OK now (and I did check the lid down property in ACPI setup and nothing had changed).

extensive attempts to reproduce this have failed. The only minor irritant I found was that if I was impatient and plugged in a memory stick before the restore completed it was likely that the stick would not be recognised until the next reboot.

I can live with that :-)
